Contractor Sentenced to 5 Years for Defrauding Fed Govt after 9/11 Attacks

On Friday, a former contractor was sentenced to 63 months in prison for defrauding the federal government in his reconstruction of the Pentagon after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Last year, 55 year-old Thomas Cousar, of Alexandria, VA (formerly of Pittsburgh), along with girlfriend Catherine Bradica and another employee of their former company, Capco Contracting Inc. of McKeesport, all pled guilty to overcharging the government by $850,000 for helping to rebuild the Pentagon. Cousar and Bradica fabricated bills to the government for work hours and materials that they actually used to work on the restaurant and bar they owned together.
Capco employees also stole materials from the Pentagon to construct a Tysons Corner, Virginia office for the Dick Corporation, a general contractor based around Pittsburgh.
Federal prosecutors said Thomas Cousar…was heard exclaiming, "We're gonna make a million bucks!" while watching TV coverage of the burning Pentagon the day after the attacks.
"I just want to remind everybody that this offense involves an exploitation of a national trauma," Assistant U.S. Attorney James Garrett told the sentencing judge. -AP
Bradica, 56, Capco’s controller and the manager of the Pentagon subcontract, was sentenced to 41 months in prison. Daniel Monte, 64, who supervised Capco's Pentagon work site, received 21 months of prison time.
