The country is deeply divided over Iraq. Whether or not you feel the war was justified, the time has come to discuss how to resolve the problem and begin to heal the country.
The war has now gone on longer than America's involvement in World War II. We have buried more than 3,000 of our sons and daughters, and countless thousands more are permanently scarred, physically and mentally. How much longer can we go on?
As a father who has had a son serve in Iraq, I request our commander-in-chief answer one question: "Sir, when you say we have to achieve "victory' in Iraq, how do you define "victory?' "
I can't recall a single news conference where someone asked President Bush that question. The Sunnis and the Shiites will continue to kill each other as they have since Muhammad's time.
Exactly what does the term "victory" mean? And if there is no "victory" to be had, since we can't even define what it means, then let's stop being involved in this unwinnable religious war.
We can use the funds and troops elsewhere to meaningfully combat global terrorism.
